Justice Democrats Endorses Col Doug Applegate for Congress

"l want to tell you about Doug Applegate. He's a Marine Colonel, unabashed Bernie supporter, and progressive," said Cenk Uygur. “and he's running against Darrell Issa.”

October 19, 2017
 – Justice Democrats announced their 2017 slate of candidates, highlighting Col Doug Applegate in California’s 49th race.  Cenk Uygur, CEO of The Young Turks, and founder of Justice Democrats stated on-air, "l want to tell you about Doug Applegate. He's a Marine Colonel, unabashed Bernie supporter, and progressive... and he's running against Darrell Issa. He almost beat him last time. He only lost by [1621] votes. ...That's a REAL fighter. Issa is this close to losing. He's one of the worst Republicans in Congress. GO MAKE THAT HAPPEN.”

“Team Applegate is proud to join the Justice Democrats 2017 slate and we are honored to be in such great company,” said Colonel Applegate. “We are emboldened by our shared vision to take dark money out of politics, and we vow to fight for Universal Health Care, making the minimum wage a livable wage, ensuring a renewable energy revolution, defending and expanding women's rights, and advocating for peace and diplomacy. Our race should stand as a beacon for all progressives, that when we share our message, defend our values and speak truth to power, we CAN win. In 2018, let's finish what we started and take back the Hill, together. ”

Justice Democrats are recruiting and running Democrats all over the country (starting with Congress) and their belief is that strong Democrats with a real message have the best shot of winning anywhere -- even red districts. All candidates are required to pledge not to take any corporate PAC or corporate lobbyist money. Justice Democrats were created by Cenk Uygur, CEO of The Young Turks, Kyle Kulinski of Secular Talk and Zack Exley and Saikat Chakrabarti. Zack and Saikat are former Bernie Sanders campaign staffers.

Col Doug Applegate ran against Darrell Issa in the closest race in 2016, on a brazenly progressive platform, and got within 1,621 votes of unseating one of the wealthiest and most entrenched men in Congress. Momentum continues to grow for Colonel Applegate, as he has received the endorsement of the National Nurses Union (NNU) California State Association of Letter Carriers, California State American Postal Workers Union (APWU) and VoteVets, to name a few.
