“Colonel Applegate will be taking a strong stance against the Republicans' "Right-to-Work" law which is an attack on unions all over the country,” said Anthony Novello, Business Manager, Local 582.
October 12, 2017 – Mr. Anthony Novello, Business Manager, representing Local 582 of the Plumbers, Steamfitters, Welders & Apprentices Union, today endorsed Colonel Doug Applegate for California’s 49th Congressional District, saying “Colonel Applegate will be taking a strong stance against the Republicans' "Right-to-Work" law which is an attack on unions all over the country. Doug will stand up for American workers and families by fighting for increased wages, fighting for better benefits, and fighting for stronger unions."
“The members of Local 582 are dedicated to their professions, are among the best trained at their jobs, and I intend to be the most effective at mine. I am honored to accept their endorsement,” said Colonel Applegate. “My plan is to focus on actions that promote employment growth in California, through public investment in basic industrial, manufacturing, and transportation infrastructure, and in promoting equitable minimum wages and benefits for all workers. This is a goal shared with American unions, who have served, through collective bargaining agreements, as the spearhead of improved worker wages, benefits, and safety since the Civil War.”
The members of the Plumbers, Steamfitters, Welders & Apprentices Union, Local 582 have been in the forefront of training and apprenticeship programs in the plumbing trades, and their members are recognized throughout Southern California for the quality and reliability of their work. Local 582 members have delivered superior workmanship on many of the highest profile projects undertaken in our region.
Momentum continues to grow for the Democratic candidate to replace Darrell Issa. Colonel Applegate will again challenge controversial incumbent Rep. Darrell Issa to represent the 49th District in the June 2018 primary, promising to overcome the narrowest (1,621) vote gap of 2016 election cycle and defeat him in November.
